How to be successful in social media? - Sree Sreenivasan of Columbia University shares tips

Sree Sreenivasan
Prof. Sree Sreenivasan, Chief Digital Officer and Professor of Journalism  Columbia University during his short visit to India, spent nearly two hours with the students, faculty members and social media enthusiasts at Anna University, Chennai on 5th August 2013.

During his session on 'digital media', he expressed concern that many youngsters collect lot of  information and share more information through social media, in excess of what is needed.  Many times, people have landed in difficulty for sharing more information, he added.

Prof. Sree quoted the example of more than 35,000 journalists of traditional media losing their job in US.  He also cautioned Indian media that a storm may come in another 4 to 7 years.  Since Indian media makes money through traditional media, internet media is not growing, he observed.

He also explained as to how fast the technology was growing.  It took 75 years to telephone to reach 50 million people; radio took 38 years; television took 13 years; internet took 4 years and the latest iphone apps took only 8 days to reach this audience.  Hence, he suggested every one to make use of the technology in a more responsible manner.

Prof. Sree shared success formula for social media.  He suggested 13 factors that are responsible for social media success.  He appealed to the users to ensure that they satisfy as many parameters as possible. The following are the parameters.
